Agriculture, the origin of Vila-seca's economic base
About forty professional farmers generate quality products recognized by consumers, in addition, about three hundred people have agricultural activity as a secondary activity, so the primary sector is the one that maintains a lower sectoral weight (4,6%) over the total.
The most common crops are olive trees, carob trees, nuts and vegetables, and vineyards in smaller quantities. The evolution of the type of crop responds to the need to satisfy a demand for products originated by the development of tourism.
Within this sector, the Vila-seca Agricultural Cooperative stands out, founded in 1901, which produces extra virgin olive oil, from its mechanical extraction of the Arbequina olive variety and which holds the quality seal of the Siurana Protected Designation of Origin.
