Last Saturday morning, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Camp de Tarragona Tramway Operations Center took place, a strategic infrastructure that will strengthen the municipality's role as a key point in metropolitan mobility.
The event was chaired by the Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Sílvia Paneque, together with the Mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura and the participation of the President of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), Carles Ruiz; the General Director of FGC, Alicia Valle; as well as several institutional representatives of the municipalities of Reus, Cambrils, Salou and La Canonja and several councilors of the Municipal Corporation of the City Council of Vila-seca.
During his speech, Mayor Pere Segura highlighted that this Operational Centre "is not just a building: it is the beginning of a network that will connect people, generate opportunities and help us build a more cohesive and sustainable territory". In this sense, he highlighted that this infrastructure "consolidates Vila-seca as a strategic point for the development of the tram".
The new center, located between Avinguda de Ramon d'Olzina and the A-7, will house the maintenance workshop, the tram parking area, the control center and the offices from where the service will be managed.
The Operations Center will provide service to the first phase of the Camp de Tarragona Tramway, which will connect Cambrils, Salou and Vila-seca, and has been designed to allow the future expansion of the service to Tarragona and Reus.
