The Sicart Room of the Castell de Vila-seca hosted yesterday the session of the Joaquim Margalef Conference Series on the Future of the Territory, dedicated to the challenges of sustainable mobility in the Camp de Tarragona. The conference was attended by the mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura; the president of the Social Council of the Rovira i Virgili University, Josep Poblet; the manager of the Territorial Mobility Authority of the Camp de Tarragona, Eugènia Domènech, and the former director general of Land Transport of the Ministry of Public Works and the Generalitat de Catalunya, Manel Villalante.
During the opening of the event, the mayor recalled Joaquim Margalef's connection with Vila-seca, highlighting his authorship of the Economic and Financial Study that accompanied the General Urban Development Plan approved in 1993. In the words of Pere Segura, "Vila-seca wanted to join these days of tribute to recognize Joaquim Margalef's connection with our municipality, but also because his way of understanding the territory continues to be fully valid".
In fact, Joaquim Margalef was one of the people who best understood that the future of Camp de Tarragona could not be analyzed from a strictly local perspective. He defended the need to think about the territory in an integrated way, connecting the economy, urban planning, infrastructure, mobility and quality of life.
The day continued with a presentation by the former mayor of Vila-seca, Josep Poblet, followed by the intervention of Eugènia Domènech, who explained the pivotal role of the ATM of Camp de Tarragona in the territorial future. Afterwards, Manel Villalante gave the presentation “Challenges of sustainable mobility in Camp de Tarragona”, focused on the current and future challenges of mobility and the need to promote more efficient and sustainable transport models.
