The Vila-seca City Council is taking a new step forward in improving sustainable mobility with the expansion and renovation of the Bus Blau public transport service, which has been operational since July 2020 and which last year 2025 transported a total of 213.774 passengers.
From 1 September 2026, the service, which will continue to be operated by the company Plana, will have several improvements. On the one hand, the centre of La Pineda will have a new line, the L3, which will allow you to reach almost all the facilities located in the urban centre of Vila-seca, directly and without having to transfer at Plaça dels Països Catalans. In this way, La Pineda will be connected to strategic points located in the Colomí neighbourhood such as the Health Centre, the Train Station, the Senior Citizens' Home and the Esplai Sant Esteve, as well as to municipal services in the Historic Centre such as the Town Hall, the Citizens' Information Office, the Youth Information Point and BASE, with facilities in the La Formiga neighbourhood such as the Conservatory, the Josep Carreras Auditorium, the Municipal Stadium and the Miramar–Les Illes neighbourhood.
The frequencies between Vila-seca and La Pineda are also increasing, with a departure every 25, 30 or 45 minutes, in order to facilitate faster and more efficient travel between the two most populated areas of the municipality.
On the other hand, the second improvement has to do with the L22 line, which serves the town of La Plana. This line, from September 1st, will enter the interior of the neighbourhood, the stop will be located on the corner of Carrer del Camí del Morts and Carrer de Sant Joan and, therefore, users will no longer have to travel to the entrance of the neighbourhood to take the Bus Blau.
In addition to these new features, the L1 Vila-seca-La Pineda lines continue to be maintained, which provides service from Plaça de Països Catalans to the centre of La Pineda with a total of 22 stops between the outbound and return journeys; the L11 and L11R which cover the route between La Pineda and the secondary schools in Vila-seca; the L2 which runs an internal route through Vila-seca through different strategic points and the L4 which connects Plaça dels Països Catalans with the New Port Shopping Centre located on Avinguda de l'Alcalde Pere Molas.
The annual cost, borne entirely by the Vila-seca City Council, of the Bus Blau service, which has two buses, is 872.614,98 euros. It is expected that during the coming winter new shelters, stop signage and new service infrastructures will be installed, as well as the incorporation of a new articulated and fully electric bus that will replace the current one on the L1 line between Vila-seca and La Pineda.
It should be remembered that Bus Blau users who also have the VilaCard citizen card can use this service completely free of charge.
