The mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura, together with the councilor for General Services, Security and Civics, Josep Toquero, and the councilor for Pineda and Beach Affairs, Esmeralda Núñez, presented today, at the Hotel Best Terramarina in La Pineda, the special device for the occasion of the Sant Joan festival. The event was also attended by representatives of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Local Police and Civil Protection police forces.
The night of Sant Joan is one of the most popular of the year and, at the same time, one of those that requires greater planning by the City Council. In this sense, last year's experience has highlighted the impact that this celebration has on public space.
The aim is to ensure that the revetlla continues to be an open, popular and participatory festival, but with greater security and a clear call for civility and respect for the environment. For this reason, citizens have been asked to enjoy the festival responsibly.
In this sense, this year's plan incorporates several measures aimed at strengthening coexistence and protecting the environment. Special attention will be paid to the most sensitive natural spaces in the municipality, with access restrictions and a ban on fireworks in the beach area included in the Natura 2000 Network. Likewise, the Pinar de Perruquet park will become a sensory calm zone, free of fireworks.
At the same time, the rules of coexistence on the beach and the promenade will be reinforced to preserve the environment, with the prohibition of making fires, leaving waste, camping, stepping on dunes or engaging in uncivil behavior. This regulation will be accompanied by the installation of more than a hundred information signs as signage.
As for the festive activity, it will be moved to Parc dels Prats, a more suitable space for this celebration, while a special security and surveillance device with more than 70 personnel will be deployed, reinforced with camera systems and drone service. There will also be healthcare services and a Punt Lila.
The mayor, Pere Segura, wanted to make it clear that "Sant Joan cannot be synonymous with lack of control in public spaces. It cannot be a night in which natural spaces are left unprotected. It cannot be a night in which people who are more sensitive to noise do not have any space for calm. And it cannot be a night that the next day forces municipal services to act on a degraded public space."
