Next Friday, September 4, the inauguration of the collective exhibition “Confluences between the Caribbean and Catalonia” will take place at the Vila-seca Castle, an exhibition that can be visited until October 4 in the Kies Room.

The inauguration will be presented by the Councilor for Culture, Leisure and Knowledge, Manuela Moya; the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona, ​​Antonio Gómez and the curator of the exhibition, Consuelo Velázquez. This exhibition, organized by the Vila-seca City Council, with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Tarragona, the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona and the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), brings together artists from the Dominican Republic and Catalonia in a cultural exchange project, which aims to strengthen the ties between both communities through contemporary art.

The exhibition will feature the participation of Dominican artists Iris Pérez Romero, Willy Pérez and Judith Mora, as well as Catalan artists Laura Álvarez Keller, resident in Vila-seca; Vicky Roldán and Queralt Osorio.

Through a selection of paintings and sculptures, “Confluences between the Caribbean and Catalonia” establishes a visual dialogue between the cultural influences of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. The sea, migrations, the preservation of nature and shared traditions become the main themes of an exhibition that invites the public to reflect on identity, collective memory and the cultural wealth shared between peoples.

The project was born in 2019 and since then has toured several cities such as Santo Domingo, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Tarragona, Cambrils and Salou, consolidating itself as a cultural bridge between the Dominican Republic and Catalonia.
