The mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura, received Nora Xatruch yesterday at the town hall, accompanied by family and friends, who traveled from Honduras to visit the town of origin of her ancestors.
The visit allowed us to recover a history that has linked Vila-seca with Honduras for more than two centuries. This is the family of Ramon Xatruch, originally from Vila-seca, who emigrated to Honduras at the beginning of the 19th century, where he settled as a miner.
His son, Florencio Xatruch Villagra, born in Honduras in 1811, rose to hold positions of great institutional relevance in the country, serving as a major general, vice president, and de facto president of Honduras. He also played a prominent role in the defense of Central America against William Walker's troops.
The meeting served to highlight the historical links that unite Vila-seca with other territories and to rediscover part of the history shared between the municipality and the Xatruch family.
